Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace OC-65 is one of the most popular white paint colors. It is a huge fan favorite and for good reason too. This white paint color is clean, crisp, and airy. It’s super versatile in that it coordinates beautifully with almost any paint color.
Hey all! Thanks for joining me here for another paint color review.
The color today was chosen none other than for the simple reason that I haven’t reviewed this one yet. But I simply cannot believe I haven’t talked about this color already.
This is a super popular paint color. It’s loved by everyone including designers, contractors, and homeowners. It’s also on Benjamin Moore’s most popular paint colors list. So I’m just shocked that I somehow skipped over it.
But alas, I’m here today to tell you every last detail about this fantastically spectacular paint color.
BENJAMIN MOORE CHANTILLY LACE OC-65
Yes, we are talking about the one the only Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. And let me tell you there is a lot to discuss, so let’s just get right into it.
- HUE FAMILY: GREEN-YELLOW
- LRV: 90.04
- COLOR COLLECTION: Most Popular Paint Colors.
- ALSO KNOWN AS: Chantilly Lace 2121-70
Chantilly Lace has an LRV of 90.04. What’s LRV mean? Light Reflectance Value, OK, but what is it?
LRV or Light Reflectance Value is a scale used by design professionals to measure the amount of light that is reflected from and or absorbed by a surface. The scale range is 0 to 100 with 0 being absolute black and 100 being pure white.
A great article to read to learn more about LRV is Light Reflectance Value: What Do Those Numbers Mean?
With an LRV or 90.04, Chantilly Lace is pretty close to pure white, but not quite there. Overall we can expect CL to reflect a ton of light.
Chantilly Lace is from the green-yellow hue family. This is a very beneficial piece of knowledge to have because It allows you to understand the paint color a bit more. For example, it can give you insight into what color it may shift to or show in certain qualities of light.
As for the color collections, Chantilly Lace is a part of Benjamin Moore’s Most Popular Paint Colors. This isn’t really telling us much about the color per se however, it’s interesting and you can see what other colors are alongside it.

WHAT COLOR IS CHANTILLY LACE?
Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace is a white paint color. To give you a bit more detail, it’s more of a clean and crisp white color. Benjamin Moore describes it as follows:
A classic go-to white that elicits images of fresh cotton and pure silk.Benjamin Moore
I don’t think I can find a better way to describe it. It truly is a classic go-to white which works with everything.
There is a reason Chantilly Lace is arguably one of the most popular paint colors available. It’s basically the perfect white. Not too warm, not too cool, just perfect.
IS BENJAMIN MOORE CHANTILLY LACE A COOL COLOR?
I wouldn’t say BM Chantilly Lace is a cool paint color. But I also wouldn’t say it’s a warm paint color.
When it comes to the tone of a paint color I find that with some colors it is much more obvious than others. For instance, Sherwin Williams Kilim Beige is a warm paint color. We can see this by looking at it. But with a color like Chantilly Lace, it’s hard to tell just looking at it.
When you get stuck with trying to decipher tones, all you need to do is compare the paint color to another.
For example, lets’ compare Chantilly Lace to Benjamin Moore White Dove.
When placed side by side, you can see that White Dove has more warmth to it and is a bit creamier in comparison. Chantilly Lace looks like a neutral white.
If you are ever feeling overwhelmed and unsure about whether or not a paint color is warm or cool, try the comparison method. It’s bound to help. But remember nothing is more full-proof than testing your paint colors.

IS CHANTILLY LACE TOO WHITE?
Absolutely not. I don’t think Chantilly Lace is too white. Now, this question really isn’t telling you much only because it’s more opinion-based. To me, Chantilly may not be too white but to someone who is looking for a white paint color with some more warmth, then it may be too white for their preference. Again this is a very opinion-based question.
Overall in balance lighting, I don’t find Chantilly Lace to look too white or stark, it is simply a fantastic white. However, in a room that is North facing and has unbalanced light, it may come off a bit cooler or somewhat icy.
If you are still wondering if CL is too white of a paint color for what you are looking for, the best way to get a 100% clear answer is by sampling the color in your space. Only then with you know for sure how the color will look.

WHAT UNDERTONES DOES CHANTILLY LACE HAVE?
OK let’s talk about Chantilly Lace and undertones or rather lack thereof. Honestly, Chantilly Lace is very white. That’s because it has a chroma (how saturated a color is) that is less than 0.55 and a value (how light or dark a color is) between 9.12 and 10.00.
First and foremost, it’s important to understand that undertones are merely subjective. Not everyone is going to see a paint color the same way. So if you are trying to select a paint color based on the undertones it may or may not have, stop right there.
A paint color is going to look different based on the element around it, especially white paint colors like Chantilly Lace. For example, in a room with a lot of windows with bright plush greenery on the outside, you may see Chantilly Lace look green at times.
If you want to know exactly how a paint color is going to look in your room you need to factor in every element in the space, floors, cabinets, furniture color, etc. Then get a paint sample and see you it looks in your room.
CL AND LIGHTING
Let’s talk about lighting! In perfect lighting around noon time, you can expect to see a paint color as it should be. However in unbalanced light that’s when you will see a shift in the paint color.
Lighting plays a definitive role in the way a paint color looks. It’s not the only aspect but it’s a large part of it. That being said I think it’s important to understand how natural light looks in certain directions throughout the day.
The four cardinal directions, north, south, east, and west, play into how lighting will look.
Having this piece of knowledge will help you choose whether or not Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace will be a good paint color for your home.
North-facing rooms – Light in North-facing rooms comes off cooler and sometimes somewhat bluish. Lighter colors appear more muted, while bolder colors will show up, or appear better. North-facing light can cool down warmer colors.
South-facing rooms– In South-facing rooms, there tends to be a consistently bright light throughout the day. Warm and cool tones work with south-facing light. This light intensifies colors, so darker colors will seem more vivid while softer colors will almost look like they are radiating.
East-facing rooms– East-facing rooms have the brightest light in the mornings, with a yellow-orange tone. If an east-facing room will be used regularly in the evenings, going with a warm palette will help to offset the lack of natural light.
West-facing rooms– Early evening is when West-facing rooms have the most favorable light. Warmer tones might seem a bit strong because of the red-orange tones the light gives off. However, if the main use of the room is in the mornings, the colors won’t seem as intense.
It’s important to remember to always take lighting into consideration while choosing a paint color. But you cannot forget about the other elements that influence how a paint color may look. This includes fixed elements like cabinetry, flooring, tiles, etc. as well as the decor colors you choose for your home.
WHAT ARE THE BEST LIGHT BULBS TO USE?
All lighting affects your paint color regardless of whether it is natural or artificial. But with artificial lighting, it can somewhat be doctored and that’s with the color of the light bulb you use.
The color of the light bulbs you use will influence how a paint color will look in a room. And unfortunately, it’s an important detail that is often overlooked.
With the variety of light bulbs available and it can become overwhelmingly confusing. I mean what really soft white and bright white?
Thankfully, it becomes easier once you know a little bit about light bulbs.
For reference, light color or light appearance is measured on the Kelvin (K)temperature scale. Lower Kelvin numbers mean more yellow light; the higher the Kelvin number the whiter or bluer light.
Remember, lower Kelvin (K) numbers = yellow light, Higher Kelvin (K) numbers = white/blueish light
I always recommend using this type of light bulb.
Be cautious of the light bulb names such as “daylight” or warm light”. I’d advise against picking a light bulb by its name.
Instead, always check the package for actual facts. This allows you to choose the best bulb for you.
Don’t forget, as much as lighting plays a major part in how a paint color will look at times, there are other determinants to be aware of. For instance, decor, furniture, fixtures, cabinetry, and floors. These are all elements that can affect and/or influence the way a paint color will look in your room.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SAMPLE?
I’m an advocate for testing and sampling paint colors. I wholeheartedly feel like it’s a sure-fire way to see how a paint color will look in a room. I feel as though many people brush over this step in the painting process and I think it’s wildly insane.
Now that we are clear that sampling is a must, what is the best way to sample Chantilly Lace?

WHERE TO USE CHANTILLY LACE
As we already discussed, we know Chantilly Lace is a clean, crisp white paint color. This means it can be paired with just about anything and it can be used anywhere.
White is a super popular kitchen cabinet paint color. Everyone loves a white kitchen, especially one that looks like Ana’s asprinkleofana on Instagram.
Her Chantilly Lace kitchen cabinets are clean, crisp, and absolutely stunning. It doesn’t look stark or cold, rather it looks quite inviting.
Paint bedroom walls with Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace is another place you can use this fantastic white.
Jess of jkmacrame_ on Instagram used Chantilly Lace on her bedroom walls. It looks absolutely amazing. She added some color to her room using throw pillows and their perfection. That is the thing about white walls, you can use color in other aspects of the room to give it character.
Jess also has an Etsy Shop where she sells handcrafted modern macramé. I highly suggest checking it out.
IS CHANTILLY LACE A GOOD EXTERIOR PAINT COLOR?
A paint color on the exterior is always going to look different from a paint color used inside a home. Why? Well, the direct sunlight brightens or lightens up the colors. So the question here is, is Chantilly Lace good for the exterior?
If you are after a bright white house then yes Chantilly Lace is the white exterior paint color for you. It will look very bright and super crisp.
Theazbeachhouse on Instagram used BM Chantilly Lace on the exterior of her home. It looks gorgeous paired with the dark trim and windows. I also love that it gives the house a bit of a modern look. Flat out stunning.
So if you are after a softer white, I suggest steering clear.
Another thing to keep in mind is that since Chantilly Lace is basically a neutral white, it works well as a trim color. It tends to go nicely with the color of windows.
WHAT COLORS GO WELL WITH CHANTILLY LACE?
Basically, every color will work with Chantilly Lace. Why? Because it’s a neutral white paint color with no surprises to it. This is a “what you see is what you get” type of white.
When it comes to some of my favorite colors to coordinate with Chantilly Lace, they are as follows:
Does Chantilly Lace go with Pale Oak?
Absolutely! It looks wonderful when paired with Pale Oak. Even though Pale Oak is a light paint color, there is still a beautiful contrast between the two colors. Of course, that attributes to how white Chantilly is.
WHAT IS THE SHERWIN WILLIAMS EQUIVALENT TO BM CHANTILLY LACE?
There is not a Sherwin Williams paint color that exactly dupes BM Chantilly Lace. And I have yet to come across a paint color that is a dupe between the two brands.
That is a good thing though. It gives us a ton of variety with the paint colors we have to choose from.
I understand that not everyone has access to every paint brand and that is why people want to know if there is a dupe for a certain color.
I found two colors that are similar according to the spectatorial data.
SW WHITE SNOW SW 9541 – Sherwin-Williams Emerald Designer Edition
SW EXTRA WHITE SW 7006
Between White Snow and Extra White, White Snow is a bit closer to Chantilly Lace. I wanted to mention both because SW White Snow is a newer addition to the Sherwin Williams Color Collection.
I know what the next question is, can’t I just color match with Sherwin Williams paint? Yes, you can but proceed with caution.
Paint manufacturers use different formulas to create their paint colors, so if you try to color match the colors won’t exactly match. If you are feeling brave enough to try it I HIGHLY suggest getting a small sample cant to start off with.
CHANTILLY LACE BENJAMIN MOORE BEHR EQUIVALENT
Unfortunately, again there is not a Behr Paint exact dupe for BM Chantilly Lace. But I found a color that is very similar and makes for a good alternative.
BEHR – BIT OF SUGAR PR-W14
Behr Bit Of Sugar is very similar to Chantilly Lace. It’s not quite an equivalent but it’s close enough and a beautiful white paint color.
I’m a fan of comparing paint colors. It helps in discovering the differences between the colors. It’s also a handy way to figure out what paint color is right for you.
