I think it is a fantastic color to pair with light wood because of its tone and its nature-inspired.
SHERWIN WILLIAMS CITY LOFT SW 7631
LRV 70
SW City Loft is a near-neutral paint color. Some like to call it a light greige. It’s not really a gray paint color, nor is it beige. It sits happily somewhere in the middle.
The warmer tones of City Loft mesh seamlessly with the warm tones of light wood.

LRV 53
Sherwin Williams Lazy Gray is a cool-toned stunner.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS IRON ORE SW 7069

BENJAMIN MOORE PALE OAK OC-20
LRV 68.64
Benjamin Moore Pale Oak is a phenomenal light gray, almost white paint color.
Pale Oak looks amazing with light wood trim, floors, and cabinets. No, it’s not because the word Oak is in it’s name. But it’s because this light gray has a slight warmth to it that doesn’t pull yellow.
BENJAMIN MOORE MESA VERDE TAN AC-33
LRV 26.91
BM Mesa Verde Tan, AKA Cabot Trail 998, is a darker neutral paint color with pleasant brown and gray tones.
Mesa Verde Tan has a very classic, traditional feel to it. It’s a great match for more classic light wood tones.
BENJAMIN MOORE WHITE DOVE OC-17
LRV 83.16
White Dove by Benjamin Moore is one of the most popular white paint colors out there. It’s not a clean, crisp white, yet it’s not a super warm yellow white either. It’s a neutral, slightly creamy off-white.
Basically, it is the perfect paint color match for light wood floors.
BENJAMIN MOORE CLASSIC GRAY OC-23
LRV 73.67
Benjamin Moore Classic Gray is a shade of gray that is very light and can also be used almost as an off-white color. It’s very versatile neutral with a mix of gray and beige.

BENJAMIN MOORE COLLINGWOOD OC-28
LRV 61.52
BM Collingwood is an appealing shade of gray. It is neutral, but it’s a warm gray and can sometimes even be considered a greige because it has some cool tones to it as well.
I think the mix of warm and cool tones in Collingwood is what makes it a great choice to go with light wood.
BENJAMIN MOORE GRAY OWL OC-52
LRV 64.51
Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore is a cool tone gray. It is not the coolest of grays, but it is slightly more cool-toned than most grays on this list.
Paint colors like Gray Owl, with cool greenish blue tones to it, work exceptionally well with wood tones, especially light wood.
BENJAMIN MOORE REVERE PEWTER HC-172
LRV 55.05
Pevere Pewter by Benjamin Moore is a well-loved, popular neutral paint color. It is a medium-toned paint color that has a mix of both warm and cool tones to it. It has a very earthy feel to it.
That earthiness makes it a great paint color option to pair with light wood trim, flooring, and cabinets.
BENJAMIN MOORE HALE NAVY HC-154
LRV 8.36
BM Hale Navy is one of my favorite navy blue paint colors. What you see is what you get with Hale Navy. It’s a straight-to-the-point navy blue.
And I absolutely love navy blue and light wood paired together. It’s like a match made in heaven.
BENJAMIN MOORE MANCHESTER TAN HC-81
LRV 63.24
Benjamin Moore Manchester Tan is a newly refined and elegant shade of beige. It leans more tan and less yellow beige.
This is a neutral tan paint color that has a bit of green in it, which keeps the yellow in it at bay.
I think Manchester Tan works well with more neutral-toned light wood.
BENJAMIN MOORE WILD FLOWER 2090-40
LRV 24.33
The BM Wild Flower shade features a soft blend of pink and orange, resulting in a one-of-a-kind reddish hue that exudes effortless style.
Wild Flower is an excellent accent color to use in a room with more neutral-toned light floors.
BENJAMIN MOORE SANCTUARY AF-620
LRV 41.85
Benjamin Moore Sanctuary is a soft shade of purple that offers a unique alternative to a more traditional gray.
This is not the most vibrant of purple paint colors, which keeps it more usable, almost like a neutral.
Shades of purple look so lovely with light wood flooring, trim, and cabinets. It complements the tones of the wood perfectly.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIGHT WOOD
Let’s talk about a few different types of light-colored wood species.
Light wood comes in various types.
However, generally speaking, most of the light wood tones tend to look good with the same colors.
Some examples of light wood are:
- PINE
- BIRCH
- BEECH
- ASH
- FIR
- OAK
- MAPLE
Of course, there are all sorts of different light-colored wood stains out there as well. But these are a few popular types that are on the lighter side.
WHAT COLORS GO WELL WITH LIGHT WOOD?
Before I start throwing paint color your way, let me go over colors that work well with light wood trim, floors, etc.
Fortunately, light wood complements a wide range of colors, giving you the freedom to explore beyond neutrals. Personally, I must admit that light wood looks stunning when paired with vibrant or pastel hues!
- Tan
- cream
- gray
- blue
- green
- red
- purple
Yellow is one of the colors I tend to avoid with light wood. Depending on the color of the wood and the yellow paint color itself, the colors can clash.
Be cautious with cream paint colors. Some tend to have a more yellow base, which again can clash with the light wood tones.
Here are some important points to remember.
When selecting a paint color to complement light wood, it’s essential to consider the other elements in the room, such as the lighting and orientation of the space, as well as the overall decor style you’re working with.
It is important to acknowledge that these things still exist and should not be ignored.

FINAL THOUGHT- THE BEST PAINT COLORS THAT GO WITH LIGHT WOOD
Looking back at this list of paint colors, I recognize that it’s full of neutrals, But there is a reason.
Most often, neutral paint colors are the most difficult to figure out. Meaning what colors it will possibly show or flash.
And when it comes to trying to pair it with other colors or elements like light wood, that’s where things can get confusing.
I figured a list that was primarily neutral would be more beneficial. Because we all know neutral paint colors are popular.
On top of that, I find paint colors like blues and greens are much easier to pick out because you know what you are getting with a color.
Overall, I honestly think finding a paint color to go with light wood floors, trim, or cabinets is not as challenging as you think.
I can easily say a paint color like SW Snowbound will work as a wall color for the light trim in your home.
But as I have mentioned multiple times in my articles, it is important to test the chosen paint color in your space to ensure it will work well. Sampling the paint color in your space is crucial for success.
Do you still need a little more guidance finding a paint color?
