Red brick—charming, classic, and the ultimate “I have strong opinions about exterior paint colors” kind of vibe. If you’ve ever stood in front of your red brick home, paint swatches flapping in the wind, questioning every life choice you’ve made up to this point, you’re not alone.
As a paint color consultant (and someone who has most definitely overthought trim colors at 11 PM), I’ve helped many homeowners find the perfect shades to pair with the fiery, earthy tones of red brick. And while creamy whites and warm neutrals always get a lot of love, today I want to talk about the unexpected heroes: blues and greens.

Yes, you read that right. Blue and green paint colors can look phenomenal with red brick. As long as you choose the right ones. Don’t worry, I got you. I’m going to talk you through it all; undertones, contrast, and just enough drama to make your neighbors slow down and stare (in the best way).
1. Sherwin Williams Retreat (SW 6207)

The Moody Green That Whispers “I Have Taste”
Retreat is a gorgeous muted green with gray undertones—it’s like a pine forest on a cloudy day. I recommend this color when you want your home to feel grounded and intentional without screaming “look at me!” It leans cool, which is a nice balance to the warm, rusty tones in red brick.

Pair it with soft black trim for a cozy modern farmhouse look, or keep things simple with an off-white like Sherwin Williams Alabaster. Either way, it’s the kind of green that makes red brick feel fresh and current. And yes, your HOA will approve.
2. Benjamin Moore Knoxville Gray (HC-160)

Is it blue? Is it green? Is it gray? Yes.
Knoxville Gray is a chameleon. In bright light, it reads more blue-green; in shadow, it deepens into a slate-y moody tone that’s just… chef’s kiss. It has just enough green to pull out the natural earthy tones in the brick without feeling too matchy-matchy.

This color is so good on shutters, front doors, or even as the main body color if you’re feeling bold (which, let’s be honest, you should be). I once paired it with red brick and brass hardware on a client’s colonial, and I still dream about that house.
Check out some of the best slate-y, moody blue-gray paint colors, if you are into that kind of thing.
3. Sherwin Williams Storm Cloud (SW 6249)

For When You Want Blue, But Make It Sophisticated
Storm Cloud is a rich, muted blue-gray with a strong backbone. It has depth, drama, and a serious “I have my life together” vibe. It’s stunning with red brick because it doesn’t compete—it complements. The contrast feels refined instead of flashy.

If you’re scared of going too cool, don’t be. Storm Cloud’s gray undertones keep it grounded. Bonus: it makes green landscaping and copper accents pop. Hello, curb appeal.
4. Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage (HC-114)

Soft, Subtle, and Not so Secretly a Show-Off
Saybrook Sage is one of those soft, heritage-inspired greens that looks like it belongs on a historic home with ivy-covered walls and a storybook front porch. (What I’d give to live in one of those homes!) It has a gentle yellow undertone that warms it up just enough to sit beautifully next to red brick.

It’s elegant. It’s easy. It makes you want to sip sweet tea or wine (let’s be real) on a rocking chair. And it is a fabulous option if you’re into a more traditional or cottagecore aesthetic. Yes, I just said cottagecore unironically. Thank you, TikTok.

5. Sherwin Williams Needlepoint Navy (SW 0032)

Not-Too-Navy Navy
Needlepoint Navy is that perfect in-between blue—not overly bright, yet not too dark. A great way to envision this color is a classic navy blazer, not a nautical anchor party. It’s traditional without being boring, and when paired with the warmth of red brick? Oof. Stunning.

This one’s ideal for shutters, doors, or even garage doors if you want to add depth and drama without going full-on black. Add some creamy trim and call it a day (or call me, I live for this stuff).
6. Benjamin Moore Lafayette Green (HC-135)

The Bold, Regal Green You Didn’t Know You Needed
Lafayette Green is deep, rich, and unapologetically green—but with enough black in the base to keep it chic. If your red brick is on the lighter or more orange side, this contrast will feel luxe and intentional.

It’s a bit more daring, yes, but sometimes bold is beautiful. Especially when you pair it with brass light fixtures and a beautiful wood door. I would absolutely use this on shutters or a front door for a classic but memorable look.

7. Sherwin Williams Riverway (SW 6222)

When You Want to Be a Little Different (But Still Make Good Decisions)
Riverway is a dusty teal-blue that manages to be both charming and refined. It has green undertones that tie in beautifully with natural surroundings, and it plays surprisingly well with brick—especially deeper red and burgundy bricks.

It’s a little artsy, a little unexpected, and perfect for someone who wants their house to stand out just enough without being “that house.” (You know the one. Neon door. Mismatched trim. Choices were made.) I was that person. That one time I was married and had a house, I painted it Riverway. One of my favorite colors. Now, I no longer own the house nor am I married, but I still love the color. Like I said, choices were made.
8. Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green (HC-157)

It’s Moody. It’s Sultry. It’s Kind of a Vibe.
Narragansett Green is like that mysterious friend who always has a good book recommendation and an antique brass lamp collection. It’s technically a green, but it reads somewhere between deep teal and blackened forest depending on the light. Such a good color!

Paired with red brick, it’s bold and broody in the best way possible. This is not a safe choice—it’s a showstopper. Use it on shutters or a front door, and you’ll have people pulling into your driveway just to ask what color it is. (This has happened. Multiple times.)
9. Sherwin Williams Pewter Green (SW 6208)

Earthy. Elegant. A Total Sleeper Hit.
Pewter Green doesn’t get nearly enough love—and I’m here to change that. It’s soft but saturated, a mid-tone green with just enough gray to keep things feeling neutral-adjacent.

Next to red brick? Pure harmony. It plays up the earthy warmth while adding a calm, cultivated contrast. Think botanical garden meets brownstone. I especially love it on siding or as a full-body color for a bungalow or colonial-style home.
